Focus of the Test
The Horizontal Jump Test, often referred to as Broad Jump or Long Jump, is a common way to measure an athlete’s explosive power. Here’s how to perform this test:
Rules
Directions for the Horizontal Jump Test:
- Stand behind a line marked on the ground with feet slightly apart.
- A two-foot take-off and landing is used, with swinging of the arms and bending of the knees to provide forward drive.
- The athlete attempts to jump as far as possible, landing on both feet without falling backwards.
- The measurement is taken from take-off line to the nearest point of contact on the landing (back of the heels).
- Usually, the athlete is allowed to attempt several jumps, and the longest jump is recorded.

Goal to Pass the Test:
The goal to pass this test can vary based on the level of the athlete and the specific requirements of the basketball program or coach. However, for a general indicator:
- For female athletes, a jump more than 1.8 meters (5 feet 11 inches) is generally deemed good.
